What kind of training do our plasterers have?

One of the many advantages of employing our plasterers full-time (instead of subcontracting) is that we get to directly support the training and development of our team members.

We’re always looking for new ways to help our people grow, whether that’s in their careers, skills or interpersonal skills.

It’s just one of the ways we’re able to deliver the very best plastering services to builders in Queensland.

Here are some of the forms of training we initiate for our team.

Becoming qualified

Every plasterer has to start somewhere!

At CRA Construction, we’re passionate about seeing more people choose plastering as a rich and rewarding career. That starts with offering work experience placements and apprenticeships.

Every year we take on a handful of apprentices who are matched with senior team members to learn from the best across a range of commercial and residential projects.

Apprentices are typically with us for a minimum of six months, up to four years while they complete their formal TAFE studies to achieve their certificate in plastering.

At the end of the apprenticeship, if they’re a good match for CRA, we don’t hesitate to extend an offer to stay with us as a permanent employee.

Double certifications

Why stop at one certification?

For a little while now, we’ve been assisting some team members to become qualified carpenters on top of their plastering trade. This is hugely beneficial for both CRA and our team members.

For CRA, we can offer our clients an improved range of services, including the capacity to carry out C&P (Ceiling & Partition) packages for commercial projects.

Meanwhile, our team members get to challenge themselves learning new skills, growing their resume and careers.

Personal improvement training

This one is a hallmark for CRA!

We regularly invest in workshops and training days with notable speakers to work on our emotional regulation and interpersonal skills.

Sadly, there is a reputation in the construction industry for tradies who are rude, easy-to-anger and poor communicators. We want to buck this trend as much as possible, especially as two of our company’s values are Communication and Professionalism.

Our training sessions have seen us work on skills including showing up with the right mindset, resolving conflict amicably, processing emotions constructively. We’ve even had team members share what they’ve learned with their partners and families!

Further training

Again, we don’t just stop at entry-level qualifications! We’re lucky to offer a range of positions for senior team members. We’re excited to both develop people from within our company as well as hire new people and offer further training.

We’ve supported our senior plasterers with a wide range of training opportunities, including in leadership, management, supervising and sales skills, mental health & wellbeing skills, and specialist plastering and carpentry techniques.

Conclusion

At CRA Construction, we’re deeply proud to offer so many training opportunities for our team members and watch them grow.

For other companies that only hire sub-contractors that are here today and gone tomorrow, this kind of investment just doesn’t make sense.

As a result, they can’t offer the same level of skills, professionalism, integrity and communication as we can.

We’ve seen this investment pay off ten-fold, with happy clients who enjoy a team of plasterers they can trust to deliver exceptional work with a friendly and reliable attitude!
