Ever since we started CRA Construction, we haven’t been satisfied with simply following the industry’s standards – it’s long been our goal to go above and beyond them to inspire change.
It’s why Kim chose to become the chairperson of AWCI, and Chris is a committee member. We’re passionate about raising the standards of the plastering industry by taking a different approach as managers to our work, while also working to create change at a state and national level.
Our years of experience have taught us that excellence doesn’t come naturally but is something that has to be worked towards every day. We do this by taking a different approach to managing construction from our peers – here’s a look at how we do it!

It’s no secret that construction workers face a lot of challenges. The people in our industry face a huge amount of mental health issues, with double the risk of suicide compared to other industries in Australia, as the Black Dog Institute reports.
On top of that, we have a serious skilled labour shortage that exacerbates many of the problems – a lot of workers in construction are overworked and underpaid, leading to high turnover rates, a lack of productivity and poor workplace culture in many jobs.
We’ve experienced these challenges firsthand, and we know how difficult it can be to navigate the industry. That’s why we’ve taken such a different approach with our management style in the years since opening our doors.

It’s our belief that to achieve great plastering, you need to hire workers who are both skilled enough to do the job and show up to work each day with a great mindset.
At CRA Construction, we foster this kind of environment with an emphasis on team training and a healthy company culture that enables continued career development.
This means that everybody on our team is passionate about plastering, and that every time we arrive on a site, we have a team that is genuinely eager to do their best work.
Unfair pay is also a huge issue in construction, which is why we make a point of fairly compensating all our plasterers. By making sure our people are looked after at all levels, the CRA team are dedicated to creating top-notch work for our clients and providing exceptional customer service!
It’s also our goal to create a strong, healthy company culture at CRA Construction, because we genuinely care about the people that we work with.
Multiple studies have shown that a positive work environment makes a huge difference for employee morale and productivity, and that both leaders and employees have a role to play in creating this.
A big part of this for us is a healthy work/life balance for all employees, no matter if you’re an apprentice or a manager. Once the day is over, that’s it – no after-hours phone calls, no staying back past scheduled hours, because we know that personal time is important.
We also achieve a positive workplace by building meaningful relationships with our team, making sure to regularly schedule one-on-one and group meetings that promote teamwork and honest communication with one another.

There’s a reason why many of our team members have been with us for years and years… Our management style makes CRA Construction a place where people want to work!
It’s not just our team that experiences the CRA difference, though. Our clients can see the results on their projects when their plastering is done by a team who cares!
