Here at CRA, we believe wholeheartedly that everyone should have the ability to grow with their company instead of being left behind. This is why we place such a massive focus on training and upskilling our crew to be the best tradies (and best people in general) that they can possibly be. In this blog, we’ll be diving into the benefits and importance of offering training and development to staff within the construction industry, and how we support this in our own team environment.
Honestly, upskilling your staff is probably the BEST decision you can make for your construction company. New knowledge works wonders in boosting skills, making job sites safer, turning efficiency up a notch, and continually improving outcomes for your clients. Think fewer accidents, smoother projects, and happy customers all around. Plus, staying on top of the latest industry news, developments, and best practices helps keep things exciting and innovative on-site. Your team members will thank you as well. Giving them the opportunity to improve their skills and advance their careers is one of the best ways to thank them for a job well done.
For starters, we are big on hiring apprentices who really show dedication to their work and want to build solid construction careers. At this point in time (May 2024), we currently have 5 mature-age apprentices because we strongly believe in investing in those who have chosen to reset their lives, achieve a qualification and set themselves up for a career. We also have another awesome full-time apprentice who we hired as a school-based apprentice last year. He has shown incredible growth, and we are so glad we decided to bring him on board.
Aside from apprentices, we’ve also enrolled 3 of our qualified plasterers into CPC30220 – Certificate III Carpentry to further their skills on our commercial sites. Our staff are on many different sites learning from the 70 builders we work for and are being supervised by our qualified carpenters.
Let’s take a step away from work-based training for a second and focus on training that involves, leadership, teamwork, and other developmental skills that are highly valuable for any industry.
Our team are currently attending Leadership EQ, an Equestrian Farm-based training operation where team members learn to calm themselves and work progressively as a team alongside working with the horses. Exercises include:
We also have a full team training day coming up soon with two Leadership Coaches, ex-Navy Commodore Martin Brooker for leadership training and ex-Helicopter Rescue Officer Dave Greenberg who will be going over the importance of WHS and teamwork in general.

In our experience here at CRA, we’ve noted the following benefits of investing heavily in the upskilling of our staff…
“Here at CRA Construction, the company culture is all about teamwork and growth. We’re encouraged to share ideas, learn from each other, take on new challenges, and even jump into ice baths together. This environment truly pushes me to do my best work every day.”
